Enrico Salvatori, president of Qualcomm Europe, has called for the UK to roll out LTE as soon as possible.
The roll-out has problems on a number of fronts: the auction of 4G spectrum has not happened because incumbent operators have squabbled about the terms of the auction, and because there are fears that LTE will interfere with TV reception.
Ofcom has given Everything Everywhere permission to go ahead with LTE using 3G spectrum, a decision questioned by Vodafone.
Across Europe incumbent operators have complained that caps on tariffs are reducing the operators' ability to come up with the Euros 200-250bn needed to pay for LTE roll-out across the continent.
But EC Digital Agenda Commissioner, Neelie Kroes, says that the European Central Bank is considering ways to help fund the deployment.
