US Iron and Steel Scrap Exports Increases 33.42 Percent From January

According to the statistics released by the US International Trade Commission (US ITC), in February this year, exports of iron and steel scrap from the US amounted to 1.20 million mt, increasing 33.42 percent from January and down 36.53 percent compared to February 2013. The value of these exports increased by 25.77 percent compared to January and decreased by 39.79 percent year on year, falling to $479.55 million.

In February, Turkey was the leading scrap export destination of the US, importing 201,542 mt, recording a 33.33 percent rise month on month and a 66.10 decrease year on year. Meanwhile, Turkey was followed by Taiwan and South Korea, which received 177,851 mt and 162,569 mt of scrap from the US, respectively.

Meanwhile, in the first two months of this year, exports of iron and steel scrap from the US totaled 2.10 million mt, decreasing by 38.71 percent year on year.
