Germany-based automotive supplier Continental has opened its new high-tech production facility at its Kaluga production site in Russia with an investment of €24m.
The new high-tech production facility has an annual production capacity of about one million engine control units, 500,000 fuel supply units and 500,000 fuel rail systems.
Continental Powertrain Division president José Avila said that with the new plant, the company has increased its production capacity in Russia, and that will enable it to serve customers in Russia on a long-term basis with products manufactured in Russia.
"This is a further strategic step to positioning ourselves in the rapidly growing Russian automotive market as one of the world's leading supplier of electronics," Avila said.
The new automotive facility, which was built in 16 months, occupies an area of 7,200m2 of utility space and features new production technology.
Continental Powertrain Russia head and Continental Automotive Systems RUS CEO Christian K?gl said the new production facility meets the standards of quality the company enforces at all of its international sites.
"Among other things, the new facility will help to meet the demand for efficient, electronically controlled engine systems, which is growing rapidly in response to Russia's stricter emissions standards," K?gl added.
Continental will produce the 32-bit Easy-U engine control unit at the new facility in order to meet the needs of emerging markets.
