The University of Minnesota is looking to recruit students for its master's degree program in medical device innovation. The engineering-focused curriculum is designed to prepare students for careers in the medical device industry, which employs more than 250,000 people in Minnesota. The program will also expose students to project and business management principles in addition to intellectual property, and regulatory affairs.

The program will be headed up by Daniel L. Mooradian, who has worked as a researcher and manager at Boston Scientific and Synovis Life Technologies, a maker of surgical tools and implantable biomaterials. Mooradian has also founded a number of medtech startups.

Minnesota, along with Massachusetts and California, is one of the largest medical device hubs in the United States.

In addition to the program at the University of Minnesota, medical device master's degree programs are offered by the University of California, San Diego, and the University of Southern California.

Last year, Georgia Tech created a Master's Degree in Biomedical Innovation and Development.

A number of universities also offer programs in regulatory affairs.
