Alstom T&D India, globally known as Alstom Grid, recently flagged off its 100th 765kV transformer. Concurrently, it also rolled out India's largest 765kV 275 MVA, single-phase transformer. Alstom has been producing 765kV transformers at its greenfield manufacturing facility at Vadodara, commissioned in March 2009.
The "hundredth" transformer is destined for Power Grid Corporation of India's 765kV substation at Aurangabad in Maharashtra, while the second transformer will be deployed at Jaypee Group's Bara Thermal Power Project in Uttar Pradesh.
Alstom T&D India is the leader and has the largest market share for 765kV generator transformers among Indian manufacturers, a company statement noted. It has worked on over 20 projects for 765kV transformers and reactors in India for clients including PGCIL, Jaypee Group, Lanco Group and state-owned transmission utilities of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, etc.
Rathin Basu, Managing Director, Alstom T&D India, in a release noted, "Alstom T&D India has been a pioneer in localized high-end extra high voltage 765kV products in its world-class manufacturing facilities. Alstom is a significant contributor in building a robust 765kV transmission backbone in the country."
Transformers for Nabinagar project: In another development, Alstom T&D India will supply a power transformer package for Nabinagar Power Generating Company Ltd's (NPGCL) super thermal power project in Bihar. This order, worth around Rs.105.5 crore, covers the design, engineering, manufacture, supply, testing, erection and commissioning of generator transformers and associated power transformers and shunt reactor. All equipment will be manufactured by Alstom T&D India's transformer manufacturing and testing facility in Naini in Uttar Pradesh. NPGCL is an equal joint venture between NTPC and Bihar State Electricity Board for implementing the 3x660-mw Nabinagar supercritical power plant. Transformers are integral components of an electrical grid, essential for the efficient and safe conversion of electricity between diverse voltage systems.
