The state assembly said that as many as 5 companies have been granted prospecting licenses for iron ore in Chhattisgarh during 2011-12 and 2012-13 fiscal years.
In a written reply to Congress member Mr Mohammed Akbar, CM Mr Raman Singh said that the licenses were awarded by the central government to 5 private companies for prospecting iron ore in Bastar region besides in Balod and Rajnandgaon districts of the state.
Mr Singh said that no company was given iron ore mining rights in the state during fiscal years 2011-12 and 2012-13. He added that applications of eight companies for prospecting licenses were pending before the central government besides one application for iron ore mining license.
