The EU and Indonesia Started a Test Run for Deliveries of Timber with Flegt Licences

In October 2012, the EU and Indonesia started a test run for deliveries of timber with FLEGT licences. The aim is to identify and document potential problems with import and export deliveries from Indonesia to the EU associated with timber boasting FLEGT licences. In particular, licence-granting procedures in Indonesia, the flow of information between relevant authorities in Indonesia and the EU, as well as the way in which importers and competent national authorities and customs-and-excise agencies in member countries of the EU treat FLEGT licences are to be monitored and optimised. However, the FLEGT licences being used in the trials are still not valid, as the FLEGT licensing system in Indonesia has still not been approved by the EU.
