Roca London Gallery, a recent winner of the Large Retail Project at the Lighting Design Awards 2012, features a lighting control system from Helvar.
Designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, the ground-breaking new showroom in the heart of London, is a unique concept that showcases Roca bathroom products and its inspiration from the power of water as a transforming element.
The lighting control scheme needed to support the stunning interior's ambience by emphasising the relationship between the architecture of the space and the design of Roca bathroom products.
Located at Imperial Wharf close to Chelsea Harbour, the Roca London Gallery - the latest of the elite Roca Galleries following Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon - demanded a unique lighting design solution.
Installed by Scomac Services, an Aldershot-based mechanical and electrical contractor, the Isometrix designed scheme responds to the fluidity of the interior form and the changes in colour, texture and surface finishes. The scheme makes use of cold cathode light sources which are embedded within the building fabric and integrated into chandeliers to reveal the complex curves of the dynamic interior and interplay of materials.
Scomac chose Helvar as the lighting control provider based on past experience of working with the company. A Helvar 452 dimmer provides appropriate levels of control for the system which has a variety of pre-programmed lighting scenes for day-to-day operation, daylight control as well as bespoke settings for the many special events held at the gallery.
Scene setting and adjustment is via Helvar custom finish white keypads and the system is also integrated as part of a touch screen controlled audio visual system. The 452 is a DALI compatible dimmer that can operate in either a trailing or leading edge mode for maximum installation flexibility.
At Roca London the dimmer is in trailing edge mode for seamless control of the cold cathode light sources.
