Taipei, Oct. 22, 2012 (CENS)--Taiwan-based market research agency Market Intelligence Center (MIC) recently forecast that the production value of global the semiconductor industry would rise 4.8% year on year in 2013, a strong recovery relative to this year's estimated annul growth rate of 0.2%.
Also, the MIC felt Taiwan's semiconductor industry would outperform the global industry next year with a projected revenue growth rate of 6%, with the silicon foundry segment seen to surge most (7.1%) and IC design sector to rise second most (5.6%).
The organization pointed out that hamstrung by lackluster PC market global semiconductor industry would grow at a marginal 0.2% rate this year. It estimated PC market would climb next year, thereby driving up semiconductor demands.
The organization projected the island’s semiconductor industry would generate revenue totaling NT$1.64 trillion (US$54.6 billion at US$1:NT$30) in 2013 partly thanks to increased contracts from international integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) to local IC assemblers and partly to the effect that Taiwanese chipmakers’ presences in developing markets have begun producing. Next year, the island’s silicon foundry sector is estimated to produce revenue of around NT$677.5 billion (US$22.5 billion).
Silicon foundry, the organization estimated, will experience inventory adjustment this quarter and next, the latitude for high-end service of this sector to grow remains high.
In addition to business driven by strong market for low- and middle-range smartphones, Taiwan’s IC design houses are expected to gain shares of LCD drive IC and eMMC (embedded multimedia card) IC markets in 2013.
