Reile's Transfer and Delivery, a US-based company, is set to foray into food processing business with the launch of a $10m plant in the state of North Dakota.

Expected to be open by 2014 summer, the plant will process raw sugar and edible soybeans.

According to an application made to Grand Forks Region Economic Development, Reile had sought a five-year tax exemption from the county, reported Forum News Service.

The total investment comprises $7.1m for 145,000ft2 facility, $1.7m for machinery and equipment, and additional $1.365m for the land.

Reile general manager Dean Mertz was quoted by Forum News Service that the company would remove impurities from raw sugar and edible soybeans, and ship the food-grade products by truck and rail to customers nationwide for further processing.

"Shipping value-added ag products is something that's not done a lot by rail," Mertz added.
