With Christmas just around the corner, people will be looking to dust down their decorations and get them out for the festive period.
It can sometimes be a bit of a contest between households trying to see who has the best decorations on the street, so why not be one step ahead of the crowd and use LED lights instead of traditional festive illuminations?
With the economic situation still affecting millions of households, consumers are looking to try and get the best bargains they can and purchasing your Christmas lights is no different in that respect.
It might seem like an easy decision to get traditional lights, but when taking into account the energy-saving nature and long life of LEDs they really are the better option when trying to save money this year.
Indeed, Marc Shkolnick from Lincoln Electric System told 1011 News that classics could end up costing more because of the extra energy that incandescent bulbs use.
The initial price of LED outdoor lights might seem a bit more expensive but you more than make that money back in the long run.
Mr Shkolnick added: "When you have lights that are putting out more heat [incandescents], you could run into problems if they come into contact with something flammable. The LED, on the other hand, uses all of the energy to light the LED without giving off heat or using too much energy."
Ryan Tague, of Ace Hardware, waded into the debate, stating: "Incandescent lights last about three years, while LEDs last about ten years."
Don't just trust these experts, just take a look at the Christmas lighting system at the Rockefeller Center, which was opened last week.
The tree is illuminated by 30,000 LED outdoor lights and stars such as Mariah Carey, Cee Lo Green and Rod Stewart were out in force last week to unveil it.
