British luxury car maker Bentley Motors is set to unveil its first plug-in hybrid model, Bentley Hybrid Concept, at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.
The new plug-in hybrid model will be a dedicated version of the all-new SUV available in 2017. The concept is based on the company's flagship model, the Mulsanne.
Bentley Motors chairman and chief executive Wolfgang Schreiber said that there is no doubt that plug-in hybrid technology is true to Bentley's values of outstanding luxury and effortless performance.
"Combining our renowned engines with electric power reinforces and enhances both principles, and so we will gradually introduce this powertrain across our model range," Schreiber added.
"By the end of the decade, at least 90% of our production will be available as a plug-in hybrid. We are proud to be pioneering these developments in the luxury sector."
Benefits offered by the new plug-in hybrid system include up to 25% power increase and 70% reduction in CO2 emissions. The new model can move at least 50km on electric power alone.
For exterior and interior styling, the company will use copper including in headlamps, radiator shell bezel, brake calipers, feature line details and badges.
