AVX Filed a Shelf Registration Statement for Nearly $141 Million on Its S-8 Form

Greenville-based electronics components maker AVX Corp. filed a shelf registration statement for nearly $141 million on its S-8 form with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Friday.

The statement will allow AVX to issue up to 11 million shares of common stock at a maximum offering price of $12.81 per share.

AVX Corp. operates through three segments: passive components, KED resale and interconnect products. Its passive electronic components are used in automotive braking systems, copiers, hearing aids, locomotives and wireless phones. The company's KED resale segment deals with ceramic and tantalum capacitorsThe tantalum capacitor distinguishes itself from other capacitors in having high capacitanceThat property of a system of conductors and dielectrics which permits the storage of electricity when potential difference exists between the conductors. The company is majority owned by Japan-based Kyocera Corp.

AVX trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol AVX. Shares closed at $13.04 on Monday, 28 cents higher than the previous close.
