Apple Inc. expects to join Samsung and Sony in the wearables territory this fall, with a tentative October launch date scheduled for its long-rumored gadget, Re/code reported.

The consumer electronics company hopes to hold an event that month to showcase the device, which will feature the HealthKit health-and-fitness measurement app it unveiled this week at its 2014 Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Japanese newspaper Nikkei also reported on the forthcoming wearable, adding that Apple will produce 3 million to 5 million of the devices per month — a number that tops total 2013 global sales of watch-like gadgets. The device is expected to have a curved organic light-emitting diode, or OLED, touchscreen and allow users access to smartphone messages.

Apple earlier this year began studying ways to build a better battery to lengthen a chargeThe amount of electricity present upon the capacitor's plates. It is named after Charles-Augustin de Coulomb.1 coulomb is the amount of electric charge transported by a current of 1 ampere in 1 second. It can also be defined in terms of capacitance and voltage, where one coulomb is defined as one farad of capacitance times one volt of electric potential difference.. on wearable devices, including solar power and wireless technology.

Reports of an iWatch stretch back to early last year, when the Cupertino-based company began filing to trademark"iWatch." There was even speculation then that the device wouldn't drop until the second half of 2014.
