It is reported that ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe announced to fire up its 1.7 million metric tons/year blast furnace at its Hamborn works, Duisburg, northwest Germany. However, ThyssenKrupp stopped production at Hamborn No. 9 furnace in January 2012 for a reline costing €38 million in the upgrade, designed to improve the competitiveness and viability of the site. According the source said that on Tuesday it had restarted hot metal production in the furnace of BF No.2 in Duisburg-Schwelgern in 2014. Meanwhile, the Schwelgern furnace, one of two at the site, has annual production capacity of around 4.4 million tons, meaning around 12,000 tons per day of production.
