US carmaker Chevrolet is planning to add a new rear-wheel-drive sedan to its lineup, which will hit the market next year.
The SS model will also be the carmaker's next NASCAR Sprint Cup racecar and will be unveiled in its race configuration at the 2013 Daytona 500.
The new 2014 limited production version sedan is expected to be powered by a 6.2litre LS3 V8 engine, mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmissions, will generate an output of 426hp and 420lb-ft (569 Nm) of torque.
Chevrolet said that the SS sedan will be a derivative of the rear-wheeldrive architecture incorporated in the vehicles including its Camaro and Holden's upcoming VF Commodore to be launched in Australia.
The latest SS model in the carmaker's lineup is the fifth-generation Camaro, which was unveiled in 2010.
