The Taiwan LED Lighting Industry Alliance Will Propose Common Interface Specifications

The Taiwan LED Lighting Industry Alliance will propose common interface specifications and standards for driver circuits and lighting modules for Taiwan- and China-based LED lighting makers at the 2013 LED Lighting Taiwan exhibition, currently taking place at Nangang Exhibition Hall in Taipei, Taiwan, from June 18-20.

Taiwan-based LED firms such as Epistar, Everlight, Lite-On Technology, Formosa Epitaxy, Bright LED Electronics, Optotech, and Ledlink are currently exhibiting new LED products and components at the show. International firms such as Nichia, Philips Lumileds, and Osram are also participants at the exhibition.

The focus of the 2013 LED Lighting Taiwan exhibition is the announcement of joint standards for Taiwan- and China-based LED lighting products. According to Frank Chien, chairman of Formosa Epitaxy, the LED lighting market has been plagued with a lack of standards and unstable product quality while firms engage in severe price competition. The lack of standards has also been deterring consumers from switching to LED lighting, said Chien. Therefore, by integrating and standardizing lighting module, firms can increase the interchangeability of products which is beneficial to the development of LED technology.
