Canacero Urged The Government to Control Steel Products Imports to Protect Local Industry

The Mexican Iron and Steel Institute Canacero urged the government to control steel products imports to protect local steel industry.

According to data released by Canacero, Mexico imported 550 tons of rolled steel products in this November, increasing by 29% year on year.

Among them, the imports of medium heavy plates surged by 32%; those of hot rolled coils jumped by 46%; those of steel wire increased by 59%; those of rebar soared by 314%; those of hot dipped galvanized steel coils rose by 45% and those of welded steel pipes increased by 46%, all compared to the figures in the same period of a year ago.

Canacero pointed out that those imports flowed into Mexican market through unfair trade way, hurting the local steel industry and forcing steel mills to reduce capacity utilization rate.
