On September 25 the U.S. local time, and during President Xi Jinping’s state visit to the U.S., Chinese Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng and the responsible of United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Alfonso Lenhardt signed the Memorandum of Understanding between Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Development Cooperation and Establishing Communication Mechanism, which enhanced the level of communication and cooperation between the two countries on international development and enriched the connotation of China-U.S. bilateral relations.
In the past two years, on the basis of respecting each other’s national conditions and the will of the recipient countries, China and U.S. carried out pilot projects for developing cooperation in agriculture and training in East Timor and Afghanistan, cooperated with each other in combating Ebola in West Africa, and established the cooperation relation initially, providing foundation to China and U.S. for development cooperation. As the competent departments of development of the two countries, Chinese Ministry of Commerce and USAID established the communication mechanism through the signing of MOU. The two parties agreed that, on the basis of “put forward by the recipient countries, agreed by the recipient countries and led by the recipient countries”, the two countries should give full play of each other’s advantages, and carry out cooperation in agriculture, sanitation and human resources training, to gradually broaden the fields of China-US development cooperation, to inject new power for international development and to make new contributions to eliminating poverty and hunger of the world.
