American Trucking Associations appointed Curtis Shewchuk of Con-way Inc. as chairman of the group's Homeland Security Policy Committee, ATA said Jan. 14.
Shewchuk is chief security officer of Con-way, based in Ann Arbor, Mich. He replaces Leo Diaz, a UPS Inc. vice president in Washington, D.C., as committee chairman.
"Curt is a highly respected security professional and a veteran law-enforcement practitioner, whom the ATA is very pleased to have lead this important committee," ATA Chairman Philip Byrd Sr. said in a statement.
Shewchuk has worked in security for more than 40 years, first in local and federal law enforcement and then with Con-way since 1990, the company said. He has directed the company's global security programs since 2003 and in 2006 was recognized by ATA as Security Professional of the Year.
He also will take a seat on ATA's board of directors.
Con-way ranks No. 3 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of for-hire carriers and has major operating companies in less-than-truckload and truckload transportation and third-party logistics.
