China's MIIT on December 4 announced the release of TD-LTE licenses to China Mobile, Chine Telecom and China United Network Communications. It means China enters new era of 4G mobile network.
It's reported thatChina Mobile has adopted TD-LTE as a sole 4G standard, while China Telecom and China Unicom will focus 4G on FDD (Frequency Division Duplexing) LTE with TD-LTE as an auxiliary standard. China is only expected to license FDD-LTE networks - China Unicom and China Telecom's favoured standard - sometime next year.
China, the world's biggest smartphone market, had 1.2 billion mobile users as of the end of October, 62.3 percent of whom are on China Mobile.
