Lighting Science's new Coastal LED Light collection was created in effort to help sea turtles and other wildlife from being exposed to much light during the night. The extra light from buildings and street lamps has been known to deter sea turtle hatching and threaten other wildlife that are sensitive to certain colors of artificial lights.

Turtle eye receptors are more sensitive to light than humans. Studies show they are so sensitive that they can even detect minor color changes in lighting that go unnoticed by humans. Ultra-violet, blue, and green spectrums of light are most disruptive to turtles. The one color spectrum that seems to be okay with these petite beach creatures is the amber-colored LED illumination.

"Sea turtles and other wildlife are endangered by traditional white lighting at homes and businesses in coastal regions," said Jeremy Cage, CEO of Lighting Science. "The Coastal Light from our Nature Collection offers flexibility in design and installation but it doesn't attract the turtles and prevents the unnecessary loss of wildlife."

The Coastal Light is available in a variety of configurations and mountings and meets Florida's Wildlife Conservation standards and the International Dark Sky Association requirements. Keeping the beaches dim and safe for amphibians and mammals one light at a time.
