Upon driving south on California’s 405 Freeway, a new solar array has popped up over the last years or so. Large in size and definitely noticeable, and even though it may be creating energy what about its overall appearance? What if this large solar display was both nice to look at and a source for clean energy?

The award winning designers of ‘Lunar Cubit’ have merged a sustainable design with a creative display. This solar plan will consist of solar pyramids that will be used to generate renewable energy for the homes of Abu Dhabi. Once completed this site specific proposal will be one of the world’s first zero carbon urban designs. The ‘Lunar Cubit’ consists of nine exotic glowing pyramids that mark the lunar phases.

During the day the pyramids collect energy and at night the glass structures become glowing sculptural recreations of ancient Egypt. The Lunar Cubit’s large structures are made of glass and amorphous silicon, the exterior is a polished onyx that gives the entire exterior a shimmering mirror finish.
