A Camera Capable of Taking Pictures with a Resolution up to 50 Gigapixels From Duke

A camera capable of taking pictures with a resolution up to 50 Gigapixels has been made by scientists at Duke University in North Carolina.

It can reveal detail which is invisible to the photographer's eye.

The university calls the camera AWARE2.It was developed under a DARPA contract.

The camera is two and a half foot square and 20 inches deep.

It contains 98 separate cameras each synchronised to take a picture of one area of the field of view.A processor then stitches them together into a single image.

The Duke team beleive that handheld,gigapixel camers will bevin consumers'hands within five years.
