Winter is coming!Actually,it's here;but it's not too late to make sure your house and yard are winter ready. Here are some simple handyman tips that will help a lot this winter. It's not too late to get them done!
Keep Your Yard Water-Free
With the winter upon us,you've got to worry about water freezing. At night, temperatures will dip well below freezing, and you've got to make sure anything that uses water is water-free.Disconnect the hose and store it.If you've got birdbaths, empty the water out of them.Freezing and unfreezing there can cause cracking in the base.Anything else that uses water should be emptied out so that it won't be affected by freezing temperatures.
Wrap Up Your Lawn Furniture
One more bit of yard maintenance you're going to want to do before winter sets in too much is to cover up your deck chairs and other lawn furniture.Even if you live in an area where you don't get snow,it's a good idea to cover them up when you're not using them.Be sure to secure your covering with something heavy, either some stones or pieces of wood.Winter can bring heavy winds and you don't want your coverings flying away!
Get Ready For Snow Removal
If you live in an area with lots of the white stuff, you should use this time to make sure that you've got plenty of tools and gear for removing it.At the very least, you should have a good, wide shovel. If you don't mind paying a little extra, you might think about buying a snow-blower.This is great for areas where you occasionally get covered in winter storms. For those who are past the age where they want to get out and shovel, you can always hire a handyman for this important task.
Check Your House For Holes
Since you're going to have some cold weather and serious heating bills, now's the time to check for holes where air might be coming in.It's a really easy handyman task to caulk up holes, and it will save you lots of money on your heating bill.Take a little time and go over all the areas of your house,or hire a handyman to take a good, close look.
Upgrade Your Insulation
This might also be a good time to upgrade your insulation. This is another thing that can really save you on heating bills.Make sure that everything is intact and you don't find any worn parts. You can always patch things up with a little spray foam insulation if you find areas that are lacking.
It's chilly outside,so get started! These handyman tasks actually should be done before winter sets in,but everybody's so busy it's often tough to get them taken care of.If you do them now, you'll be glad when things thaw in the fall. And maybe you can mark on your calendar to get them done next September or October!
