Hammock Stands for Hammocks with and without Spreader bars
There are two main type of hammocks - those with spreader bars and those without. Most of the time, you cannot interchange hammock stands with these two types of hammocks. The main reason for this is because hammock without spreader bars must be set up higher either on trees or a stand. Hammocks with spreader bars don't need to be hung so high and if you did, you'd have a tough time getting in . . . unless, of course, you were 7 feet tall.
Metal or Steel Hammock Stands
Metal hammock stands are very durable and affordable. Metal hammock stands aren't as elegant and sturdy as wood hammock stands, but metal stands are most popular. If you have a metal hammock stand with a chip in the paint, use automotive paint to ensure you are inhibiting rust as best as possible. Why would you need to do this you ask? Well, if you want to lay in your hammock in the sun and/or in the shade, you have to move with it. Or if your loved one is mowing, gardening or doing something else in the yard that may require you to move the hammock and stand. Stainless Steel Hammock Stands
Stainless steel hammock stands never rust. They are perfect for areas like your open deck and porch where you wouldn't want rust to stain those surfaces. While a little more expensive than a steel hammock stand, the stainless steel hammock stand is a good selection for areas with much precipitation and/or salty water air. The stainless steel hammock stands are usually silver in color.
Wood Hammocks Stands

It is recommended that the wood -- which is unfinished natural cypress -- be treated once a year with water repellent to preserve the beautiful yellow color of cypress. If untreated the wood also turns to an equally beautiful gray and hardens for long wear. Both stands are extremely rigid and sturdy and will far exceed the necessary 450-pound weight rating for the hammock.
Roman arc hammock stands can be expensive, depending on your wallet size, but these stands will last and are well worth the price.
