First, what is a hand-scraped floor? An authentic hand-scraped (hand-sculpted) wood floor has a distinctive surface texture. To make our collections, each plank is scraped with a tool for a distinctive, one-of-a-kind floor. No two planks are the same. Then we give the wood a color stain and pre-finish it with a factory coating using leading edge technology.
Here at Armstrong, I've designed many different styles of hand-scraped hardwood floors -and believe me, this is a style trend that is here to stay. Homeowners like the rugged appeal of these floors, with their depth, character, rustic features, and hand-crafted look.
Hand-Scraped Hardwood Collections
Let me introduce you to the hand-scraped collections that Armstrong offers. You'll notice some of these floors have been influenced by the West Coast or the Southwest design styles, but hand-scrapes are popular all over the country.
Sara Babinski has worked with practically every type of flooring, and is currently the lead designer for our hardwood and laminate flooring products. She received a BFA in Illustration and Design from the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Sara likes to blog about how nature influences design and new hardwood and laminate products. Born and raised in the beach community of Sagaponack, New York, she looks for inspiration in the textures and colors found in nature.
