Inclinometer instrument - Also known as the tilt meter or the clinometers, the purpose of an inclinometer is to measure the elevation, depression, angle of slope of an object. Basic trigonometry has to be used for using an inclinometer. The observer stands at a point A and measures the distance D from that point of observation. Then the angle between O and top of A say x is measured and for this purpose the inclinometer is used. Same procedure is done for finding the angle between O and bottom of the object B say Y. To find the height of the object above the observer the tangent is multiplied with D and to find the depth below the observer distance D is multiplied with tangent of y. To get the total height of the object you just have to add the two x and y.
Inclinometer Sensor - The inclinometer sensors or tilt sensors are used for the methodology of creating an artificial horizon first and then these sensors measure the tilt in lieu with the horizon. This technology is widely used in various applications like automobile security systems, cameras, aircraft flight controls, specialty switches, boom angle indication and more.
While buying an inclinometer or an inclinometer sensor the specifications to be kept in mind include the number of axis and the angle of the tilt. The sensor technology is also used in video games. Civil engineering activities like measuring the inclination of the land on which the construction has to be done.

INCLINOMETER'S FUNCTIONS - The functions of the inclinometers include measuring the angle of the earth's magnetic field. Inclinometers also find their use in measuring the rate as well as the depth of the land slide, monitoring volcanoes, wall or ground movements in civil engineering projects, in a few of the automotive systems, in satellite antennas for measuring the look angle, ski slope steepness, in structural geology for measurement of rock lineations, plane orientations, even while well logging to measure the angle for drilling.
