How to Install Bathroom Sink

You might be thinking as to how do I know, how to install a bathroom sink and what is the probability that whatever I am saying is correct? Well there is a story behind this, yes... story behind a bathroom sink can you imagine! Any which way, it so happened that I had decided to change the old, dirty sink in my house, it was like a black hole in my white house. So I brought a brand new one which I had seen the other day. The next big question was how to install bathroom sink, so I decided to call the plumber but he didn't turn up. So I decided to install the sink myself, as a kid I had seen my father install one, at our house so I thought it won't be that tough and I was right, it was simple. Enough of the story now, I will give you the necessary steps.

Procedure for Installation

  • First and foremost buy a appropriate sink for your bathroom, which will suit and enhance your bathroom decor. There are so many variety of sinks available these days, that one good choice can make your bathroom look like a renovated one.
  • Now the next thing is to remove the old one. Before removing the old sink, disconnect all the water lines and remove the drain pipe. Remember to disconnect the main water supply of the house, it will avoid any mishap.
  • Mounted sinks usually have four clips, loosen them and to avoid any difficulty, also remove the caulking underneath the sink. Now lift the sink up and clean the place.
  • As the size of both the sink were not the same I had to mark the lines of the new sink. This is easy, just hold the cardboard in which the sink was brought, and mark the outlines.
  • Place the sink in the place and mark the holes. Remember not to mark the holes with the sink in crooked position as it will ruin your installation.
  • Now drill the holes with a good drill machine, place the sink and attach the screws tightly, if your sink is a porcelain one you will need caulking tape as there are no clips on the bottom of the sink, seal the caulking on the sink and carefully lower it over the drain hole and attach it. Make sure it is centered right.
  • The next important thing is installing the drain. The drain has a round rubber seal consisting of a ring known as gasket, it is used to seal the pipe joint, now tighten this gasket with the nut.
  • You can also seal the rubber gasket by caulking around it, to prevent any leakage. To make it easier you can take the help of another person to hold the sink while you are fixing the drain.
  • You can also apply plumbers putty to fix the drain, but it is more messy than caulking and I think caulking should do the job. After this, attach the bottom of the drain pipe to the house water plumbing.
  • Now the main thing that remains is fixing the tap or faucet. Attach the hose or pipe( in pipe), hoses are easier to attach as they have rubber seals which don't need much tightening. Attach the other end of hose to the valve which was locked by the nut.
  • Installing the faucet is not very difficult, if you are confused you can always refer to the instructions on the installation book accompanied with the sink.
  • Now seal the edges of the sink with caulking paste and resume the main water supply of your house and marvel at the bathroom sink you just installed.
