Flowserve Corporation Announced It Has Introduced The Flowserve Pleuger PMM6

Flowserve Corporation announced it has introduced a new, submersible electric motor utilizing permanent magnet technology, the Flowserve Pleuger PMM6.

Based upon the reliable Pleuger three-phase, AC, submersible, squirrel-cage induction motor, the new Pleuger PMM6 has proven advantages over asynchronous designs, including higher efficiency at full and partial loads, lower thermal losses and a robust, large air gap configuration. The result is a permanent magnet, electric submersible motor that reduces energy costs by up to 10 percent and boosts power output by nearly 50 percent while extending the overall life of the motor. It is currently available in a 150 mm (6 in) motor size with power output of 5 kW (7 hp) to 45 kW (60 hp). Flowserve intends to release additional sizes in the near future.

Field tested extensively in Germany, Flowserve Pleuger PMM6 motor technology has demonstrated up to a 10 percent increase in efficiency when compared with current asynchronous motor designs. Operated in conjunction with variable frequency drives (VFDs), the PMM6 motor runs at synchronous speed with no rotor losses, which allows the pump to run at best efficiency point (BEP) under variable flow conditions. Since the new PMM6 is available in the same diameter as competitor units, customers will often be able to reduce their energy costs by upgrading to the Flowserve motor.

"The new Flowserve Pleuger permanent magnet motor is another example of our ability to provide innovative products to better meet our customers needs," said Bob Hendricks, president, Industrial Pump Operations. "As energy costs continue to rise, the ability of the Flowserve PMM6 motor to deliver an approximate 10 percent increase in efficiency and extend motor life will produce cost savings for our customers in the water resources and general process industries."
