Google has announced that it will close down its Compare service by March 23, which offers auto insurance comparison in two markets, the US and the UK.
With Google Compare services, one could compare various financial products such as auto insurance, insurance, mortgages, credit cards and more.
A mail in this respect was sent to one of Google's service partners. And it has been posted by Search Engine Land.
The mail said, beginning on February 23, 2016, we will start ramping down the Google Compare product, which is currently live in both the US and the UK.
"We plan to terminate the service as of March 23, 2016," the mail reads.
The company said that despite having people using this service, the service itself hasn't achieved success and earned revenues as expected.
One of the major hurdles faced by Google with Compare services was with auto insurance.
Auto insurance requires approvals from each state and it also requires collecting information about the driving habits from the users as well.
The way in which Google Compare works is that it earns commission through referring customers to specific insurance or credit card companies.
This process is unlike the usual online agencies where quotes from multiple companies are displayed at one place.
A spokesperson from Google mentioned that while the number of searches was high, the company failed to get enough traction and the revenue was minimal.
On the other hand, now Google wants to focus more on AdWords and future innovations to provide its financial-services partners with "the best return on investment."
In the UK, Google Compare has been running for since 2012 and it offers car insurance, mortgage rates, credit cards and travel insurance.
Google said that it will be working with its partners to ease the process of closure.
