Malaysian paper packaging company Muda Holdings' $24m glazed paper manufacturing plant is set to become operational next month.
Construction of the facility was segmented into three phases. An initial RM34m ($8.9) was injected for the construction of a 100,000-sq-ft facility and purchase three units of equipment from Europe
Located near its paper mill in Simpang Ampat, the firm expects to begin the first phase of production on 1 July 1. During this phase, it aims to annually produce 18,000 tonnes of glazed paper.
The phase-II is likely scheduled to be completed by July 2016.
Once all the phases are completed, the plant is expected to annually produce up to 60,000 tonnes of glazed paper.
Muda managing director Datuk Azaman Abu Bakar told the Daily Express: "Our bread and butter is still industrial paper and corrugated carton boxes that we produce at our paper mills in Kajang, Selangor, and Simpang Ampat, Penang.
"We were the first to come up with the brown hawker paper about 25 years ago... And now, we are the largest supplier as we possess over 50 per cent of the local market share."
