New smart meters will reduce the amount of time it takes to reconnect a customer's power from hours or days to mere minutes,said Guam Power Authority spokesman Art Perez.
Older meters required GPA to send staff out to the customer's home to turn power on or off manually,Perez explained.But the smart meters allow GPA to turn power on or off with a few keystrokes on computers at the GPA headquarters in Harmon.
