Taiwan-based LED packaging service provider Unity Opto Technology has invested NT$1.23 billion (US$40.8 million) to set up production capacity for LED light bulbs, tubes and lamps and will gradually expand monthly capacity from one million units currently to over three million, according to the company.
Since the US government will implement stricter Energy Star standards for omni-directional LED light bulbs in the third quarter of 2014, Unity Opto has redesigned such light bulbs for US-based clients and will begin production in July and have them Energy Star-certified by end of third-quarter, the company indicated. Revenue proportion for LED lighting will exceed 30% beginning in the third quarter, Unity Opto noted.
Unity Opto has reported consolidated revenues of NT$631 million for June, increasing 2.12% sequentially and 4.17% on year. The company's second-quarter consolidated revenues totaled NT$2.049 billion, up 7% sequentially, and January-June consolidated revenues grew 4.21% on year to NT$3.963 billion.
