Cutty Sark Storm has launched to replace Cutty Sark Black and Blended Malt and, according to its maker, is the first new addition to the Cutty Sark range since Edrington bought the brand in 2010.
Both Black and Blended Malt were sold in clear glass bottles, but a statement from O-I on the project said that the decision to move away from clear glass and create a proprietary shape for the bottle indicated the premiumisation of the product.
The bottle has been designed by Pearlfisher and is manufactured by O-I's Alloa facility in 70cl and 75cl formats.
It has a tall, oval shape which tapers from shoulder to base, and features the embossed slogan "Since 1923 Our actions define who we are".
The new label, meanwhile, carries a halftone image of a tea clipper on a grey stormy sea.
Paul McLavin, O-I marketing manager for north-west Europe, said: "Edrington wanted to make a statement of intent about the development of the Cutty Sark brand. They have found it in glass.
"The angular shape and brilliantly embossed positioning speak of a confident brand, at home with its reputation as one the best-selling Scotch whiskies in North America and around the Mediterranean and as one which is growing strongly in emerging markets across Asia and South America."
