Bridgestone has opened a new tire manufacturing plant in Pune, India and has commenced production of passenger car radial tires (PSR).
The new plant is part of tire maker's JPY50bn ($538.8m) project, which is being executed in phases.
Following the completion of the project, the company would have a capacity of manufacturing about 10,000 passenger car tires per day by 2014 and about 3,000 truck and bus radial tires (TBR) per day by 2017.
Aimed at serving mainly the Indian market, the company's second tire production facility in India can also be expanded to accommodate rise in future demand over rise in production and sales of automobiles.
The tire maker has already reached capacity utilization at its Kheda plant near Indore, which manufactures about 15,000 radial tires for cars and about 400 tires for trucks and buses per day.
Being the company's 48th tire production facility globally, the new facility is expected to be among the largest single location plants globally when fully completed.
