Automotive parts manufacturer UQM Technologies has signed a new long-term supply contract with vehicle manufacturer Electric Vehicles International (EVI) to extend the vehicle electrification work.
Under the deal, EVI will use UQM's PowerPhase HD systems, which were developed to address the demanding needs of heavier commercial vehicles, to power and control the electric motors and controllers in its electric walk-in vans and medium-duty commercial trucks.
UQM Technologies president and chief executive officer Eric Ridenour said, "The PowerPhase HD systems offer commercial vehicle manufacturers a range of solutions for building battery electric and parallel hybrid vehicles."
EVI chief executive officer Ricky Hanna said, "The UQM HD systems provide a solid electric powertrain for our medium-duty trucks and walk-in vans."
As part of the contract, UQM has scheduled the delivery of the PowerPhase HD systems to EVI in the third quarter of 2013.
The walk-in vans are used to offer services including parcel delivery, food and beverage, construction and landscaping, and come with a system that offers a range of about 90miles per charge.
