Tesco Has Recalled A Line of Its Own Brand Frozen Meat Loaf After Tests Revealed

UK-based supermarket chain Tesco has recalled a line of its own brand frozen meat loaf after tests revealed that the product contained 2% to 5% horsemeat.

The frozen meatloaf is labelled as Simply Roast Meatloaf. It was manufactured by Eurostock Foods, a family-owned firm based in Northern Ireland, UK.

The product tested was manufactured between October 2012 and January 2013 at Eurostock in Craigavon, Northern Ireland. The tests on 15 other lines from the same manufacturing site were clear of horsemeat.

Tesco noted that the investigation to thoroughly understand the source of the contamination has started and it will complete its investigation before deciding whether to continue using the supplier.

This is the fourth Tesco-branded product to have tested positive for horsemeat contamination. According to Tesco, it has now tested more than 500 products identified as being most at risk of containing horsemeat.

Meanwhile, Eurostock Foods noted that it has launched an investigation and is working closely with its customers to try to establish the source of the contaminating material.
