Intel Has Released Its Third Generation Intel Core vPro Processors, Codenamed Ivy Bridge

The new processors are based on Intel's 22nm microarchitecture

Chip maker Intel has released its third generation Intel Core vPro processors, codenamed Ivy Bridge, designed for use in business laptops, desktops PCs and Ultrabook devices.

The new processors feature performance and graphics improvements and provides businesses the security, performance and form factor improvements.

Intel Core vPro processor-based platforms will allow businesses to protect themselves in four ways: threat management; identity and access; data protection; and monitoring and remediation.

The new processors integrate hardware and software applications to protect businesses, and also introduces features such as encryption, user identity protection and the ability to lock lost or stolen devices.

Intel's identity protection technology (IPT) defends against identity theft by using a one-time password and the Intel IPT with public-key infrastructure (PKI) introduces a second factor of authentication embedded into the PC that enables businesses, governments or websites to validate that a legitimate user is logging in from a trusted PC.

The Core vPro processors also enable endpoint security management from McAfee ePO Deep Command which, together with Intel's Active Management Technology (AMT), allows IT professionals IT professional to remotely fix compromised PCs and apply security patches.

Intel AMT 8.0 is now available on Ultrabook devices, tablets and all-in-one PCs in addition to laptops, desktops and workstations, thereby enabling remote PC management even when the PC is powered off.

The new processors include Intel Secure Key that enables secure encryption for a number of applications including WinZip, Symantec and PGP. They also include Intel OS Guard that protects the operating system (OS) from applications that have been tampered with or hacked by preventing an attack from being executed from application memory.

The Core vPro processors are based on Intel's 22nm microarchitecture and, when paired with Intel's Q-series chipsets, offer a 10-20% improvement in performance, the company said.
