US-based supermarket chain Price Chopper Supermarket is voluntarily recalling three varieties of Burst Cookies - a frozen cookie produced by Jacqueline's Wholesale Bakery and baked in all of the chain's in-store bakeries, as it may contain milk that is mentioned on the label.
The products subject to the recall are three varieties of Jacqueline's Wholesale Bakery's Burst Cookies - Brownie, Almond and Raspberry - with sell-by dates of 5 September 2012 through 21 June 2013.
This recall was initiated after Price Chopper's corporate quality assurance agents discovered the presence of milk in the product and traced it back to inaccurate ingredient label information submitted by Jacqueline's Wholesale Bakery to the chain in September 2012.
Price Chopper said that addition to alerting the media, it has initiated its SoundBite recall notification procedure, which uses purchase data and consumer phone numbers on file in connection with the company's loyalty card to directly alert those households that may have purchased the product in question.
Consumption of the recalled product may lead to a severe reaction in people allergic or intolerant to milk. Consumers who have purchased the recalled product have been advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
