Ford is working to reduce the weight of its 2015 F-150 pickup truck without altering its capabilities.
Engineers at Ford have used military-grade, aluminum-alloy body and high-strength steel throughout the frame thereby reducing the weight of vehicle by approximately 450 pounds.
In addition, the team further reduced the F-150 truck weight by approximately 250 pounds from seats, bumpers and several other components of the vehicle.
All these enhancements are claimed to facilitate F-150's capabilities to provide payload of 3,300 pounds and class towing of 12,200 pounds as well as EPA-estimated gasoline fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg on city, 26 mpg on highway and 22 mpg combined.
F-150 truck features a 360° camera, integrated loading ramps, BoxLink cargo management system, trailer hitch assist and a remote tailgate.
The 2015 version can tow up to 1,100 more pounds and haul up to 530 more pounds compared to 2014 model.
