HP's Power over Ethernet Technology Reduces Power Consumption to 13 Watts, from Typical 130 Watts, with Brilliant display Quality

ST.PAUL,Minn.,May 16,2012(BUSINESS WIRE)--3M Optical Systems Division today announced that it has enabLED a new zero client, the HP t410 All-in-One Smart Zero Client, which operates within 13 Watts of power.Leveraging its Dual Brightness Enhancement Film for LED backlight monitors,3M has enabled the first all-in-one zero client capable of being powered by Type 1 PoE(IEEE 802.3af).This eliminates the need for AC power cords and consumes as much as 78 percent less power than a standard desktop.Through a collaborative approach focused on the total system power,HP has launched a new device well suited to the trends of virtual desktops and cloud computing.

Specifically,3M's display solutions for LED backlight monitors enable an all-in-one power over Ethernet(PoE)thin-client(1)computing solution,in which the power and data of a'smart'LED monitor can be powered via an Ethernet connection.

Leveraging DBEF,it is possible to create a clutter-free office without power cords that can create nuisances and potential safety hazards. This energy-efficient design enables enhanced ergonomics for desktop displays, simplification and a reduction in components through the removal of the AC to DC power conversion.

"With 3M's display solution, this device is using technology to advance current business models and to create new value in the enterprise business segment. Our efforts with HP demonstrates how a'smart monitor'that combines simple computing functionality with a display in an electronic device can be connected and powered by a single Ethernet cord. The solution serves as just one of the many ways that our suite of optical films can enable a great looking display at the lowest power,"noted Shannon Siefken, senior applications engineer for 3M Optical Systems Division.

Thin Client Definition:A machine that relies on the server to perform the data processing
