Global consumer packaging company Rexam has announced plans to invest 115m over three years to build a new beverage can plant in Widnau, Switzerland, in a bid to meet growth in energy drinks globally.
According to the company, the latest spend forms part of its current capital investment plans.
Rexam Beverage Can Europe sector director Iain Percival said the investment is part of the company's focus to capture growth opportunities in existing as well as emerging markets.
"The new plant will free up capacity at other Rexam plants in the region which will enable us to grow specialty can volumes or release production capacity for other sizes," Percival said.
The plant, which is a wall-to-wall facility, is being configured as a four line operation for different sizes of both slim and sleek cans, and will operate two lines, with the first line expected to become operational at the start of 2015.
To be built in line with the latest environmental specifications, the plant will reduce traffic to and from the site, optimize logistics cost, and further improve the sustainability credentials of the beverage can.
