Suzuki Swift Has Been Upgraded as Australian-Sourced Production Switches to Thailand

The Suzuki Swift has been upgraded with new specifications as Australian-sourced production switches to from Japan to Thailand.

While there are no pricing or equipment changes to the base $15,990 Swift GA, the mid-spec Swift GL rises by $300 to $16,990 and adds cruise control and Bluetooth phone connectivity – a claimed $850 of extra value.

The range-topping $18,990 Swift GLX also adds cruise control, but for no extra cost.

Suzuki Australia’s general manager Tony Devers said the product upgrades, signalling the start of Swift production at the company’s new factory in Thailand, also fulfil a promise made at the launch of the new Swift that cruise control would become standard on both the GL and GLX models.

“We’ve conducted several inspections of the [Thailand] plant and the product and come away extremely impressed by the quality,” Devers added.

Suzuki says Thai-built Swifts are in stock now, while production of the Swift Sport will remain based in Japan.

The Suzuki Swift is available in four model specification levels, all powered by a 70kW/130Nm 1.4-litre four-cylinder.The 1.6-litre Suzuki Swift Sport remains its own distinct model, according to the manufacturer, unchanged at $23,990.
