Higher Sales in The UK Have Led Discounter Aldi to Outline Plans to Create More Jobs

Higher sales in the UK have led discounter Aldi to outline plans to create more jobs in the country.

Aldi said today (31 July) it would create "up to" 3,000 jobs in the next 12 months as it continues its expansion in the UK.

The new roles would be in stores, at management level and in logistics. Some 200 of the new jobs were announced last month when Aldi said it was planning a new distribution centre in Yorkshire.

Aldi, which has over 400 outlets in the UK, plans to have opened around another 30 in 2012. The retailer is re-opening expanded stores this year, although a spokesperson could not put a number on the number of these outlets that would open its doors again this year. He added, meanwhile, that Aldi had "quite a few" new stores scheduled for 2013.

Data issued by Kantar Worldpanel earlier this month showed Aldi's sales had increased by 26.1% in the 12 weeks to 8 July.
