Mets? Board's Folding Boxboards Will Have a New off-Flavor Value

Finnish fiber cartonboards producer Metsä Board has announced that the company's folding boxboards will now have a new off-flavor value, following enhancements to grades including Simcote, Avanta Prima and Carta Elega.

According to the company, off-flavor implies a taint that may be transmitted to food from its packaging. As per the standard EN1230-2, the new value is <1 for one year for products that are kept in the original package.

Metsä Board cartonboard sales in Europe and MEA vice president Markku Romano said consumer demand for improved food quality, combined with market requirements for extended shelf-life has set new standards for packaging.

"These drivers, together with tightening regulations, led us to review the sensory properties of our grades so that they continue to meet or exceed new standards," Romano said.

The folding boxboard grades from Metsä Board are manufactured from fresh forest fibers, which are pure and do not contain any printed recycled material.
