Volkswagen Passenger Cars has reported a 17.4% increase in its deliveries to 491,900 units in January 2013, compared to 419,100 units for the same period in 2012.
In Germany, Volkswagen Passenger Cars handed over 38,100 units in the month, down 3.9%, compared to 39,600 vehicles for the same period last year.
Volkswagen Passenger Cars increased deliveries in the North America region by 6.7% to 29,000 units, while in South America, deliveries rose by 5.1% to 46,100 units.
In the Asia-Pacific region, the division grew deliveries to 251,100 units, of which 235,000 vehicles went to China including Hong Kong.
In India, Volkswagen Passenger Cars delivered 4,600 vehicles in January, down 19.9%, compared to 5,800 units for the same period in the corresponding year.
Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand board member for sales and marketing Christian Klingler said, "The Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand has made a satisfactory start to the year in spite of the continuing difficult market conditions in Europe, and has grown deliveries, particularly in North America and - as a result of the later date set for the Chinese New Year - in Asia-Pacific."
