West Pharmaceutical India Packaging to Manufacture Pharmaceutical Packaging Components

West Pharmaceutical India Packaging, an indirect subsidiary of West Pharmaceutical Services has commenced the construction of its new packaging facility in Sri City, India, which will manufacture pharmaceutical packaging components.

The company signed a 99-year lease on 72,800m2 of land in the Sri City Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in June 2012.

Phase 1 construction of the new compression molding facility consisting of a built-up area of 15,300m2 will begin in August 2012 on a metal seal assembly. The facility will produce metal and elastomeric pharmaceutical components used in primary packaging of injectable medicines.

Metal components commercial production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2014 and production of a range of standard elastomeric components will commence in the first quarter of 2015.

Phase 3 of the construction will be completed in 2023 and the built-up area for West's proposed plant and office will finally reach 37,700m2 by then, according to the company.
