CHS, a US-based agribusiness company owned by farmers, ranchers and cooperatives, has formed CHS AGRO, a sunflower marketing joint venture with Adecoagro.
CHS AGRO, located in Pehuajo in the Buenos Aires province in Argentina, will work on the growth and processing of sunflower kernel and in-shell products for marketing and distribution by CHS across the world.
CHS and Adecoagro will each hold a 50% ownership stake in CHS AGRO.
Commenting on the transaction CHS Sunflower president Jim Krogh said that CHS AGRO will provide the company with additional sunflower origination that will enable the company to grow further while adding value to member-owners' crops.
CHS de Argentina general manager Ignacio Bosch said, "Our partner, Adecoagro, is focused on further developing its agricultural production footprint.
"CHS and Adecoagro have a similar culture that will create numerous business opportunities," concluded Bosch.
CHS supplies energy, crop nutrients, grain marketing services, livestock feed, food and food ingredients, along with business solutions including insurance, financial and risk management services.
Adecoagro, established in 2002, is a leading South American agricultural company. It produces more than 1 million tons of agricultural products, including: corn, wheat, soybeans, rice, dairy products, sugar, ethanol and electricity, among others.
