Gujarat Co-Operative Milk Marketing Federation Plans to a New Dairy Facility in Lucknow

India-based Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), the marketer of the Amul brand of milk and dairy products, plans to a new dairy facility in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

The government had earlier planned to establish the plant on private partnership (PPP) model and open it by 2014. However, the PPP model received a dull response and the government planned to take loan from the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) to set up the plant.

In order to cut down the costs and avoid taking the loan, the government had asked GCMMF to take over the facility.

The dairy facility will be established over 25 acres land at Chak Ganjaria farms in Lucknow for the project. It will have a processing capacity of 500,000 liters of milk a day and will be managed by Kanpur branch of Banas Dairy, an Amul group dairy cooperative.

The government has asked Amul to source milk only from local farmers in Lucknow and adjoining districts. The co-operative had earlier planned to ship milk from Gujarat and process it at the facility.
